Interlude

A meditative Interactive Installation placed in Aix-en-Provence's train station in France. made in collaboration with Nanaui Amoros Silva and Fransesco Garbo.

We aimed to interrupt and make a statement against the normal, fast-paced, stress-inducing, information-bombarding flow of crowded public spaces. Using technology to provide a guided moment of rest.

The installation is shaped like a room-sized cocoon. Once inside the user is presented with darkness and a glowing orb.

Should they place their hand on the orb. They will feel it pulsate and a play of sound and light will start all around them.

In the orb, we placed a breathing and heartbeat sensor, which would synchronize the sounds and visuals of the space to the rithm of the user. Once synchronized the installation would gradually slow down the rhythm. This way, the user would slow down their heartbeat and breathing, often without even realizing it.

The Hive, Aix-en-Provence

I worked on Interlude during a residency in South France.  At residency called The Hive, at a place called the Camp.

This was a curious experience, to say the least.

The Camp is a big Google-style campus/enclave created by the late French multimillionaire/philanthropist Frederik Chevalier.

The Hive was a program inviting 20 young creatives from all over the world to live in a hotel room in The Camp for half a year and work on projects to -make the world a better place-, None of us had specific projects in mind before going there. The Camp hosted many events for the elite of futurists and French business/corporate society. Aimed at creating -a better world-.

It was very interesting to manouver for a while in these spheres of society that I normally would have little to no contact with.

With all their favors and flaws.

Nowadays, the visionary identity of the camp does not exist in the same way anymore. And the hive residency was discontinued. In some ways, Unfortunately, The Camp could be seen as failed to achieve what it set out to do. To me, however, this residency has been an important forming experience, which i treasure. It allowed me to interact with a huge diversity of people and perspectives, and it allowed me to formulate a position on art and design between innovation, futurism, and philosophy. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
